Summary in one sentence

Spectara does not collect, sell, or share personal information: everything you capture stays in your browser, and the only data that ever leaves your device is a Pro license key, sent to check that the license is valid.

1. What data does this extension access?

When you click "Start Inspect" and then click an element on a webpage, the extension reads attributes from that element (such as id, name, class, tag, visible text, ARIA labels, and the element's path within the page) in order to compute locator strings and code snippets. This is done entirely inside the browser, in JavaScript, and the result is shown to you in the extension popup.

The extension does not read what you type into form fields.

The extension also reads the URL of the current tab when generating a Page Object Model class name (e.g. LoginPage from /login).

2. What data is stored, and where?

The extension uses Chrome's built-in storage to remember:

Captures, preferences and license data are stored in chrome.storage.local, only on your own device. That trial flag is also stored in chrome.storage.sync, which Chrome syncs across your own signed-in browsers so the trial is only offered once. The trial itself is started at Polar's checkout; Polar handles the payment details and checks that each person uses one trial.

A storage cap of 100 most-recent captures is enforced so the extension's local storage never grows beyond a few hundred KB.

3. What data leaves the device?

Free users: nothing. The extension makes no network requests.

Pro users: when you enter a license key, and at most once every 24 hours after that, the extension sends only the license key to the Spectara license server (spectara-licenses.spectara.workers.dev, hosted on Cloudflare). The server checks the key with Polar (polar.sh), the payment provider you bought it from, and replies whether it is valid. No captures, page content, URLs, or browsing data are ever sent.

The license server keeps a record of each key (the key, its status and expiry, and the purchase email and IDs that Polar provides) so it can answer when Polar is unavailable. Payments themselves are handled entirely by Polar under its own privacy policy; Spectara never sees your card details.

The extension contains no analytics SDK, no fingerprinting code, no remote-script loaders, and no telemetry.

4. Permissions and why they exist

PermissionPurpose
activeTabLets the popup talk to the content script on the current tab when you press Start / Stop / Pause.
scriptingLets the popup inject the content scripts on pages that were already open before the extension was installed — without this, you would have to refresh every existing tab once.
storageLets the extension remember your captures, preferences, and license status between popup opens.
host_permissions: <all_urls>The extension's purpose is to generate locators for any element on any page you choose to inspect. There is no way to restrict this to specific URLs in advance. No page content is ever transmitted off the device.

5. Cookies, advertising, third-party services

This extension uses:

The only external service involved is license validation for Pro users, described in section 3.

6. Children's privacy

The extension is a developer tool and is not directed at children under 13.

7. Changes to this policy

If this policy is updated, the effective date at the top will change. Material changes will also be reflected in the Chrome Web Store listing.

8. Verifying it yourself

You can open Chrome DevTools → Network tab while using the extension and confirm that no requests originate from it, apart from the Pro license check described above.

9. Contact

Questions, concerns, or data requests (including deleting the license record for your key):
